Lily Shebell’s Final Composition

I named my song Snuffaluffajam. In our first critique Edrex compared one of the parts of my piece to the character Snuffaluffagus from sesame street. I told Edrex that I was pleased by this suggestion because I have always liked Snuffaluffagus and in the electronic music class EVERYTHING is intentional. Edrex confessed to me that he is also quite partial to snuffaluffagus. I soon learned that Snuffaluffagus is a character loved by not only James Hinton but also by the majority of the class as well. I decided to run with the theme of Snuffaluffagus and tried to use different snyths and effects to portray the characteristics of the Sesame Street gang and put them in an effective “space”. By doing this I created a playful compilation of tracks to create what I image would be Snuffaluffagus’ theme song. I only hope that I was able to successfully portray Snuffaluffagus.

giulia’s composition

Seven Minute Composition – Dave Sharples

My seven minute composition is titled “Freaky Dream”, inspired by the 1981 hit film Labyrinth. In this movie, David Bowie stars as Jareth, Goblin King and general overlord of the labyrinth guarding his castle. It’s more or less a 2-hour David Bowie music video. I’ve decided to call the collection of songs I’ve produced “13 Hours”, a reference to the amount of time Jennifer Connelly (the main character) had to solve the labyrinth and save her baby brother from Jareth. The song features speech samples from Labyrinth, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix, and Apollo 13 (all fantastic films), although the music itself was all composed in Logic Pro 8.

Word.

edit: Thanks to Edrex and James for being musical maestros.

ben’s final song

Hi, I am Ben aka DJ Tunafish from the 914, close to New York City. I never did the first post because I came fashionably late. This class has been a blast. My final song is entitled, “When I Hit the Club” courtesy of Slim Thug.  I have been getting into Girl Talk lately, so I wanted to give “mash-up” like stuff a go. I wanted to see if I could put music from different eras in a cohesive song. It has been a fun journey with the glorious James and beautiful Edrex. I hope everyone likes the song, I made it for all my peeps.

Kevin Copeland

I called my piece  “D  O  double G”. I chose this title because my colleague and I agree that Snoop Dogg would feel right at home rapping over this song. The motivation behind this thing was to have a really bangin’ beat along with this really nice bouncing synth that I heard in a song. It’s nice.

Saahil Bhargava

Title of Song = Windows Task Manager (Not Responding)

Artist = Saahil Bhargava

Description(Its long, sorry) = Windows Task Manager (Not Responding) is a piece that I originally composed for only a Grand Piano. But after experimenting with Guitar Pro and the Piano part, I created a whole band song. However, I found it boring to have the same or similar chord progressions in 4/4 play over and over. Using Guitar Pro and the Piano, I edited this song for about two months to reach what I believed was “perfection”. The day before I was leaving for a big trip, I was working on this song so that I could listen to it. Up till 3:00 AM, I managed to finish the song. My efforts were invain though as Guitar Pro froze and then the file got corrupted. Determined to finish it, I woke up three hours later, and finished and improved the song in 3 hours. The title was inpired by this incident as “Windows Task Manager (Not Responding)” is what occured while I tried to recover the corrupted file. In this song, I use a Keyboard and two Guitars as the Lead Instruments, with the second guitar doubling as a Rhythm instrument. The drum set requires double-bass, unless the drummer can move his feet as fast as 32nd notes. The Synth and the Lead Guitar are in harmony with each other for majority of the duration and the Rhythm Guitar occasionally joins in. The song’s time signature follows a pattern, which is three bars in 4/4 followed by a bar of 2/4 or 7/8. The Crunch Guitars are all made to sound different from the other guitars and are intend to sound this way in order to accentuate the open feel of the Synth solo. The song is currently instrumental, however, lyrics and vocals have been composed and will be available for an additional $5.

Zach’s Composition

My piece is called “Super Conductor”.

The pads/drums in the beginning is mildly influenced off of Faunt’s “M4 part 2″ (8 minutes long).  While this not as long as that it is still the longest composition I have made to date.

I add my own electonic musical touch to it staying true to the progression and and degression in the original song to some extent.  It was not entirely intentional to for the song to be entirely influenced by the song, but it helped shape the piece.

Releases tension ambiently

Inspired mostly by Nine Inch Nails’ album the Fragile and snow and life in general

Composed over a couple of days, altered multiple times and as of yet, unmastered

I had an amazing time over the past 3 weeks, had plenty of fun and discovered an ability I never thought I would have

Andrew’s Composition

This is a recording of the first song I ever wrote (2 years ago? Maybe?) called Pleasant Thoughts? I know that It’s tough to hear the reference, but the music was inspired by U2’s Mysterious Ways and the lyrics by Elvis Costello’s Hand in Hand. Certainly not the best song I’ve ever written, but it’s still very special to me.
