Concept Proposal:  http://linguaignota.edrex.com

Lingua Ignota, meaning ” Unknown Language,” is a collaboratively authored, real-time, text visualization of personal histories and poetic misunderstandings shared between speakers of different languages. It manifests as a system of interactive gallery installations with a web-based and text messaging component. These methods of interaction with Lingua Ignota are varied in order to allow for diverse demographics of new media practitioners, writers, and laypeople in the US and abroad to participate. Through a “call” and “response” conversation model, Lingua Ignota investigates the slippage of meaning in the resulting interlingual exchange. Execution of this project will leverage our interests in interface design, 3D animation, literary media, SMS as art, international auxiliary languages, linguistics, and computer visualization.
